The nursery project
For young children and their mothers
According the a WHO report from 2013, 93 out of 1000 children in the region of Karnataka die before reaching the age of 5.
The aim of the nursery is to set up a day care center, or care facility dedicated to early childhood (3-5 years old) that could:
- objective 1: welcome at least 50 children aged from 1 to 5, by offering them medical follow-up, educational awakening, and psychomotor development
- objective 2: provide mothers with educational training: nutritional needs, initiation to childcare, hygiene, etc.
- objective 3: while promoting their participation and their socio-professional integration through the creation of a permaculture garden
Our vision: a structure adapted to the needs of young children, allowing for a personalized medical and educational follow-up. This should be done while keeping in mind Montessori and Sophie Rabhi’s theories about pedagody. According to this last one, « manual activities (animal farms, gardening, …) are as important as ‘intellectual learning’. »
We plan to offer workshops such as theatre, gardening, cooking, sewing, weaving, woodworking, etc., in partneship with other NGOs specialized in childcare. For now, this remains under consideration.

objective 1: to welcome at least 50 children aged 1 to 5 by offering medical follow-up, educational awakening, and psychomotor development:
- Construction and development of two buildings, in partnership with local companies. One will consist of a reception room, a drugstore, and an office for the staff. The other building will have three washrooms (men, women, children), a kitchen and its canteen, a playroom, a classroom and a dormitory.
- Development of an educational garden and a safe playground.
- Hiring of pedagogical and pediatric staff in collaboration with local leaders as well as development of educational and pediatric tools with paediatricians and nurses from the region.
- Training of the staff by local professionals specialized in childcare, pediatrics, etc.
- Opening of the pre-nursery from 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Saturday, and implementation of an educational awakening program (teaching of Kannada and English), psychomotor activities, and a monthly pediatric follow-up.
objective 2: to train mothers in educational basis: nutritional needs, initiation to childcare, hygiene, etc.:
- Offer workshops to raise awareness about parenting and domestic life (hygiene, health, nutrition, safety, etc.)
- Establish a large database on childhood and parenting available in Kannada.
- Offer study and sharing time with other mothers
- Offer mother-to-child activities
objective 3: while promoting their participation and their socio-professional integration through the creation of a permaculture garden:
- Hire and train two women from the village whose financial situation is difficult to work as a cook and a cleaning agent at the nursery
- Strengthen administrative and staff management capacities and establish monthly follow-ups of the staff.
- Set up an open house every year and invite local people and leaders
- Develop an economically viable plan in consultation with mothers
- Train and offer professional integration to mothers

In order to broaden and integrate our projects in a positive way, we aspire to place sustainability at the core of the nursery project.
Recognition and local integration:
- Local partnerships: Montessori schools, social, economic and ecological actors in the region
- Hiring and training of local staff
- Local communication: information meetings, open houses, free workshops open to everyone
- Follow-up of children above 6 year old in surrounding village schools
- Partnerships with NGOs specialized in childcare
Professional integration and financial autonomy:
Development of a permaculture garden* that would enable the structure to be financially autonomous while promoting women’s professional integration.
*Women will have an ecological and responsible model in the same place where their children are cared for.
